I love going to Alligator Point Florida for all its marine, life, wildlife, and beautiful beaches that are immersed in nature. Alligator Point is along a stretch of the Gulf what is called “The Forgotten Coast” of Florida.
These are some of the things that I see but are not limited to when I’m there. Usually, I don’t see everything on one outing, which is why I like to go and spend a week there. I’m always gifted by seeing something that not only connects me to nature but fills my spirit with the handiwork of the Creator. I never know what I’m going to see. Almost always I see dolphin, all sorts of birds, like the great blue heron (which is my favorite), an occasional eagle, all sorts of shells that may or may not have their animals living in them, the occasional manatee, sea turtle, or shark (yes, sharks live in the ocean 😄), sometimes jellyfish, all sorts of crabs, one of my favorites is the horseshoe crab, and so much more that there’s just too many to name. Also, the sunrises, sunsets, and stargazing is practically on nature steroids here. ❤️
Depending on the time of the year you will need to dress accordingly. It can be chilly in the winter. If it’s cold, I would recommend wearing shoes that you don’t mind getting wet. I like to wear some type of fishing boots that are made from rubber, also comfortable clothing and a sweatshirt . If it’s chilly outside and I’m paddle boarding or kayaking, I will definitely be wearing dry fit leggings, and other athletic wear.
For sure wear sunscreen and if going on long walks, bring water. Personally, I like to wear a hat and an inexpensive pair sunglasses that if they drop in the sand or the water, it’s not going to damage them. I always am able to retrieve my sunglasses, but I will say I love the nature Playbook sunglasses because they are made primarily of wheat grass and if by chance they get lost the frames at least will disintegrate and be less harmful than most other sunglasses. I’ll put the link in the insider tips.
The best time to go is during low tide, where is sandbars revealed themselves with shells and other marine life. Low tide also enables you to walk further distances where high tide can make you have to walk up to the road to get around 1-2 specific areas. But it’s not that much of a diversion. However, I do feel like you see more marine life at low tide. I’m not a kid, but this place does bring the kid out and me. Fills me with awe and curiosity of the natural world around me. Needless to say, I this would be a great place for families because I think kids would love to explore here!
