The Nose via Haselton Trail — Stowe, VT

@cblumenthal

The Nose via Haselton Trail is a 4.5-mile, 2,300ft gain, out-and-back trail near Stowe, Vermont. This is a popular trail running and hiking trail, but because of its technicality it’s a little less frequented. Begin from the lot near Midway Base Lodge at Stowe Mountain Resort. The Haselton Trail climbs through the forest until you get to Nosedive and finally reach Toll Road. Most of the trail follows a stream and can get very buggy. Follow the Toll Road up to the summit station. At this point, you can pick up the Long Trail and follow it towards The Nose. The actual top is marked with radio towers so you cannot access it. If you want a longer hike you can continue on the Long Trail which traverses the ridge to the Chin (1.5 miles out). There area a number of variations you can do if you don’t want to take the same trail back down, just be wary that Haselton, Profanity, and Hellbrook require some scrambling and can be technical in some areas. Make sure to check the weather since summer thunderstorms are frequent. Pack lots of snacks and make sure you have a raincoat and something warm since it’s often windy and chilly at the summit.
