This was the most perfect day to fly kites on a the beach. The weather was amazing, although the waves were rough that day so definitely no swimming :)
Being from San Diego, I am not used to cars being allowed on the beach but I found out if you go a bit north you’ll find car friendly beaches as well as some still charcoal friendly! I say that because for me, charcoal was a normal part of going to the beach, as we would find it from beach campfires and use it for coloring on the rocks. Most beaches in southern CA now only allow propane fires due to the environmental effects. (I’m learning more about this as wood beach fires are nostalgic to me, but of course I’d love to ensure I’m not harming the environment when I live like it’s 1999 🙃).
All that being said, Pismo State Beach actually has a spot right by the parking lot that rents out four wheelers so you can drive across the sand dunes! At this beach we saw many casual day lunchers and large rvs that made a temporary home in the sand.
Oceano is a cute town, hope to explore more of it soon! As you can see, we quite enjoyed kite flying and even taught my dog Harry to fly. FYI, he is pink in these videos because he rolled in chalk prior to this outing 😅
