Charlie’s Bunion is an incredible day hike on the Appalachian Trail in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Parking at Newfound Gap, head North on the Appalachain Trail for 4 miles, before reaching a spur trail (on your left) that takes you a short distance out to the viewpoint!
A few reminders:
- Bring plenty of water and food. This hike is not flat and there will be some uphill and downhill.
- Check the weather! Specifically in the Smokies, the weather can change rapidly. You’ll be above 5,000ft in elevation!
- Recreate within your ability! The view point is beautiful however it is also very cliff-forward. Many beautiful views can be found along the trail that don’t require you to go out to the viewpoint.
