Diablo Lake viewpoint is right off the highway and a fantastic stop along the way to Mazama. There are a number of trailheads down by the lake varying in length. A gentle trail wraps around the entire lake too if you’re looking for a good stop along your drive for a picnic and to stretch your legs!
I believe you can swim in the lake and kayak, but I’m not sure if rentals are available.
Diablo Lake is a reservoir in the North Cascade mountains of northern Washington state. Created by Diablo Dam, the lake is located between Ross Lake and Gorge Lake on the Skagit River. The lake holds rainbow, coastal cutthroat, brook, and bull trout and is part of the Skagit River Hydroelectric Project and managed by Seattle City Light. The vibrant blue color is a result of glacial flour (the grinding of glaciers against bedrock)
