Snowshoeing in Rocky Mountain National Park is a special thing to do come winter (if you can’t tell by my excitement!), and RMNP offers many trails to different lakes for exploring. We chose Emerald Lake which is a good intermediate to advance hike when snow is present. Snowshoes and poles are usually needed to help get you there, and warm layers with a windbreaker are essential to brace against the cold, high winds (which you can hear in the videos).
To enter the park, you’ll need a National Park’s Pass or purchase a Day Pass. You’ll then drive to Bear Lake as a starting point. It’s about 40 minutes from the entrance depending on road conditions which can take longer come winter. Once to the top, there’s parking available alongside bathrooms and a Park Ranger Station.
If snowshoeing isn’t for you, come in the summer time when the snow is melted. The lakes are beautiful and it’s easy to tag on additional lake trails to do a lake loop.
